How Does DRM Work?

Digital Rights Management technology works by placing a strong box of digital encryption around your file’s content. This DRM packaged file may be copied or distributed just like any other computer file, but only the users you authorize will have the key by which the file may be decrypted and its content accessed and played.

The key in this case is in the form of a digital license that resides on the user’s computer or media player device. You specify the privileges and limitations of the license when you package your file using the Rights Vault DRM Packaging Application. Users who have a valid license will be able to play the file, while those without the license will not.

Depending upon the business model you choose, the license for the content may be either pre-delivered or delivered on-demand to the user. License generation and delivery is part of the service provided by Rights Vault.
